Pat Hoessli - Professional Development Coordinator

The Professional Development Coordinator assists school districts and families with Professional Development and materials needed to provide an appropriate education for students with disabilities. The IRC provides Professional Development opportunities and disseminates instructional materials and professional literature. These are available to teachers, administrators, affiliated staff, agencies and parents who are involved in the education of children with disabilities ages 0-22.

Other service functions of the PDC include conducting a regional needs assessment, producing the SPECTRUM newsletter, and working cooperatively with the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence (OCALI) in Columbus, Ohio. The PDC also provides assistance to parents and parent groups in the SEO-SERRC region as well as training for Surrogate Parents. The PDC is the link to general education initiatives affecting students with disabilities, including access to general education curriculum, high stakes assessment and the academic component of the Ohio Integrated Services Model (OISM).

The PDC maintains a library collection of professional and instructonal materials for loan to special and general education professionals, parents and other persons working with children with disabilities. The library is structured around the following main subjects/topics: Assessment Instruments, Early Childhood, Comprehensive Arts, Professional Resources, Mathematics, Science, Behavior Management, Social Skills and Health, Social Studies, Written and Oral Communication, Literacy-Reading, Assistive Technology, Functional Curriculum-Life Skills, Transition-Employability, Visual Disabilities, Hearing Disabilities, Multiple and Physical Disabilities, Computer Software, Video Tapes and Parents and Families.

Documents, official publications and announcements pertaining to the education of children with disabilities are distributed to parents, professionals and the general public. The SPECTRUM is published four times a year.
